I was so braindead I missed any connection with them and the dubs.
It took the birth of my first child to wake me up.

It took the birth of my first child to wake me up.
i've been thinking about you.
and i'm sending you lots of love across the universe.
hope it reaches you soon.... .
So good to hear from you, Mouthy.
I was just about to start a "where's Mouthy?" thread when I found this one.
In case I miss it, Happy Birthday (a little early)!

euros to dollars: 112,000 = $147,533 .
(how can the wts claim these governments "persecute" them, when it is the wts with such "rights" and can win lawsuits/money from the governments) .
Somehow it seems counterintuitive for dubs to sue and collect money from a persecuting government. Isn't persecution part of their belief in their own righteousness and proves to them they are God's chosen ones?
Getting governments to pay up settles the score. Where's the spiritual payoff in that?
dont ask me why but my dad recited to me a wonderful experience out of the blue.
he never talks jw to me so not sure where it came from.
an american brother came over to the uk who was a great great great grandson of a pastor who was friends with charles russell.
My dub father once claimed that the Pope was quoted as saying, "Why are Jehovah's Witnesses' religion growing faster than the Catholics'?"
I asked him how he knew that actually happened.
He said a brother told him at the KH.
I asked him how that brother knew that actually happened.
Dad said he didn't know.
I told him to be sure he knows the original source of stories like that before he states them as facts.
Dad said he would. I never heard any more "stories" after that.
discuss.. god is love but yet he hates.. god don't hate bad people he hates bad acts and yet he takes out his hate on people and not the acts.. god loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son as payment to some mysterious debt collector so the world would live on and then he back tracks on the deal and decides they need extermination after all, except for a worthy few who put faith in the watchtower corporation.. i remember an article by the wt years ago that dealt with the topic why a god of love is going to destroy the world any quotes from it would be helpful..
In my opinion, hard-core dubs are people who cannot accept the world as it is -- its beauties, complexities, constant state of flux, and its horrors. It's too much for them.
They are people who, for psychological reasons, turn away from the real world to seek refuge in the myth of a future, benevolent world.
Their need for certainty is so great that they are willing to accept, even applaud, the extermination of billions of fellow humans in the process.

villagegirl: " Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, liberation theologians of Africa, anti-apartheid, social gospel driven action groups. Wherever there were evil men using religion to oppress there were good men/women opposing them and they were not atheists they were people of faith. "
Wiki: The European wars of religion were a series of wars waged in Europe from ca. 1524 to 1648, following the onset of the Protestant Reformation in Western and Northern Europe [emphasis mine] . Although sometimes unconnected, all of these wars were strongly influenced by the religious change of the period, and the conflict and rivalry that it produced. This is not to say that the combatants were neatly divided by religion, which they were often not.
Individual conflicts that can be distinguished within this topic include:
Although later wars such as the Nine Years' War (1688–97) had a religious component that was important locally in some arenas, they were more fundamentally undertaken for political reasons, with coalitions forming across religious divisions. Purely political motivations, and cross-religious alliances were also significant in many of the earlier wars.
Gandhi was opposed to this unintended result of the independence of India, but it happened just the same:
Wiki: The partition of India was set forth in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulted in the dissolution of the British Indian Empire and the end of the British Raj . It resulted in a struggle between the newly constituted states of India and Pakistan and displaced up to 12.5 million people with estimates of loss of life varying from several hundred thousand to a million (most estimates of the numbers of people who crossed the boundaries between India and Pakistan in 1947 range between 10 and 12 million). [1] The violent nature of the partition created an atmosphere of mutual hostility and suspicion between India and Pakistan that plagues their relationship to this day.
When I Googled "religious" wars, the screen popped up with these choices: Religious wars, Religious wars in Europe, Religious wars in France, Religious wars today, Religious wars in the Middle East, Religious wars in Africa, Religious wars in Ireland.
A veritable smorgasbord of killing in the name of God. Killers: in the millions. Good guys: a handful. And even the few good guys would not have been necessary were it not for the inevitable conflicts arising from differences in religious faith.
villagegirl: " That is an uninformed and inaccurate statement. "
Not so very uninformed and innacurate.

lost: " The early christians. Let's not forget, they were tortured , they were burned alive as human torches. they were set upon in the arenas by animals for entertainment and sport. the barbaracy and cruelty of the Romans is fact. Where does modern christianity as an organised religion come from - the Romans. "
And let's not forget that when the christians finally came into power, they mercilessly stamped out any dissent to their version of truth. The few practices they couldn't kill, they neutralized by incorporating them into their own liturgy.
There are no heros in the history of religious faith -- only killers.
disclaimer: hubby & i have been watching a 5 dvd documentary on the 'secret's of the founding father's' we're not sure if we believe everything they talk about but here is some interesting things to think about..... revelation mentions that the 'mark' would either be on the forehead, [for everyone to see] or, on the right hand [if you make a fist, it is hidden] rev also says that no one can buy or sell without this mark.
the wtbt$ isn't too clear on what they believe that mark is, so.... what is one thing that we cannot buy or sell without?.
money!.
lost: " Cold steel are you a muslim ? you may be able to shed some light on womething for me. "
Cold Steel is a Mormon.
have you ever marvelled, as i have, at the marketing genius that sells us less food for more money?
the marketer who came up with the "100 calorie" packaging ploy deserves a consumer's medal.
i am recording my own 100 calorie snack wonders, that are balanced for a diabetic (carb, protein, and roughage).
jgnat, my husband is borderline diabetic and the disease runs in his family, so we're trying to head the illness off at the pass by eating healthier. I don't usually like "health-food" type recipes, but this one is really good. It can become a meal by baking a potato, squashing the potato on a plate, and adding a little butter and/or sour cream to potato. Then top with some Quinoa Salad, which can be heated in the microwave. Delish!
Quinoa Salad
1 cup quinoa, 2 cups water, 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, 2 limes (juiced), 2 teaspoons powdered taco mix (like Old El Paso), 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, 1 cup cooked corn, 15-oz. can black beans (rinsed and drained), 5 scallions, finely chopped. Salt and pepper to taste.
Bring quinoa and water to a boil, lower heat and simmer, covered, 10-15 minutes until quinoa has absorbed the water. Whisk olive oil, lime juice, taco mix, 1 teaspoon salt, and red pepper flakes. Combine quinoa, corn, black beans, and scallions in bowl. Pour dressing over salad and toss. Makes 6 servings. Good hot or cold.
even though i realized there were different issues that i had, it took years for me to finally decide that i wanted out.
it took less than a year for me to slowly get out and i did that successfully along with my daughter and my then wife.
we all are still all happily out.. did you believe that you would be anything but a jehovah's witness?.
I went from being a (reluctant) dub to a nonbeliever in 5 seconds. All it took was the first look at my newborn son's face. From that moment, it took me three years to gather the information and fortitude to leave. That was 34 years ago.
